Arabian Nights

The drive down to Orlando was quite uneventful. We had a schedule to keep that day because we had a specific hotel to stay at followed by dinner theater tickets at the Arabian Nights Show. We made it into Orlando in just over 12-hours giving us enough time to check-in and relax for about an hour.

Our hotel in Orlando was the La Quinta Convention center. It was suggested to me as a good place for me to bring my band in the next few years. This was a one night stop for me to check them out without them knowing that I represented about 40-rooms for 3 or 4 nights. Quite often they treat me differently when they know I'm going to bring them big business. The attention is nice, but you really don't get an honest feel for  the hotel. Let’s just say that this hotel is neither impressive nor unimpressive in any manner. It is clean, has free internet, and has two beds in the rooms. It is a good place to have as a home base for cheap, but the problem is that they are not cheap. They charge over $110/night which by Orlando standards is not an inexpensive stay. For near the same price you can stay on Disney property and the rooms in the lowest hotels at Disney makes the La Quinta look like a dump.

This was about the 10th time that I have seen the Arabian Nights show. I like to take my bands there on every visit to Orlando as it is a very family oriented show. I will say that the horses are still as beautiful as ever. The show the humans put on has gotten a bit hokey over the past few years and they would be better off going back to the show theme they had a few years ago. If you can look past the humans and concentrate on the magnificence of the horses you will enjoy this evening very much.

If I had a complaint with Arabian Nights (and I don’t) it would be the food. When I started going there the Prime Rib was delicious. This year they replaced the prime rib with New York strip steak. I’m not sure where they get the New York Strip but I was keeping my eyes out for Florshiem trucks in the parking lot. They need to fix the food problem if they want my business in the future.
